About Alta Vista
Alta Vista is one of Ottawa’s established inner-suburban neighbourhoods: mature trees, generous lots, and a location that puts downtown about fifteen minutes away. It is overwhelmingly a neighbourhood of detached homes. There are only a handful of condo buildings across the whole area.
The hospital corridor
The Ottawa Hospital’s General and Riverside campuses and CHEO sit at the edge of the neighbourhood. For the people who work in them, that proximity is the single biggest reason to live here, and it keeps steady demand under Alta Vista homes that does not depend on the wider market.
The pockets
Alta Vista is really several smaller neighbourhoods. Most residents know one or two by name.
Notable streets
A few Alta Vista streets carry their own reputation. Lamira Street sits at the western edge of the neighbourhood and is known for its large, individually built homes, among the most substantial properties in Alta Vista. Woodrest, Featherston Drive and Thessaly Circle are also frequently asked about, the last of these for backing onto parkland.
Development in the area
There is an active development application affecting land near Lamira Street. Proposals like this one shape what a neighbourhood looks like a decade out, and they are worth understanding early, whether you are thinking of selling or planning to stay.
